Football: Is Kiesau next to UW?

Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times this morning speculated that Eric Kiesau, passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at Cal, may be among the candidates for the vacant offensive coordinator position at Washington.

UW’s Doug Nussmeier is due to be announced as the new offensive coordinator at Alabama.

    Wtf.

Ron gould next ? Then arroyo ?

Is everyone worth a damn abandoning ship. Says a lot about tedford and sandy.

  • rollonubears

The devil went up to Seattle and he was looking for a staff to steal. He was in a bind ’cause he was way behind and was looking to make a deal.

  • rollonubears

Is Chase Lyman available? Loved that guy. He could take over there while Follett takes over recruiting.

  • Juancho

If we lose another key guy that’s it. Tedford must go.

Last night I was thinking how much the $ we spend on Mike Montgomery’s contract and his staff has to do with us not matching Tosh’s new salary.

Maybe we had Ben Braun around for a reason. Better recruiter at a better price. If only he could coach worth a damn.

  • The Wisdom Cow

I am beginning to feel like a character in some comedic horror film, Abbot and Costello style. Every time I turn around, another dead body, another missing body. “Ah, c’mon!”

  • The Wisdom Cow

Jauncho, bringing up Monty gets me more worried. Arik coming would be such a coup for basketball. I’ll be at a complete loss if a two sport guy chooses a different school last minute because of one position coach.

This is the lead recruiter of our commits:

The scary thing is how big of a hand TOSH has in the ELITE recruits, more or less except for Kline. As well as how he’s the lead recruiter for pretty much all the elite guys that were/are CONSIDERING Cal. This not only provides the risk that we lose guys that already committed, it looks like a slimeball move on Washington’s part to screw up any chance we had at making our class even better.

Zach Kline – QB – Jeff Tedford
Christian Okafor – OL – Kenwick Thompson
Michael Barton – LB – TOSH
Matt Cochran – OL – Jim M. & Marcus Arroyo
Cedric Dozier – WR – TOSH
Damariay Drew – ATH – Jeff Tedford
Maximo Espitia – FB – Ron Gould
Chris Harper – WR – Eric Keisau
    Zach Hoffpauir – S – Clancy Pendergast
    Cole Leininger – K – Jeff Genyk
    Steven Moore – OL – Jim M.
Hardy Nickerson Jr. – LB – Jeff Tedford
Jordan Payton – WR – TOSH
Darius Powe – WR – Eric Keisau
Freddie Tagaloa – OL – TOSH
    Shaq Thompson – S – TOSH
Bryce Treggs – WR – Ron Gould
Kenny Walker – WR – Eric Keisau

    Targets:

Stefon Diggs – WR – TOSH
Arik Armstead – DL – TOSH
Darius Hamilton – DL – TOSH
Yuri Wright – CB – TOSH
Aziz Shittu – DL – TOSH
DJ Foster – RB – Ron Gould

Agree with you Wisdom Cow. I’m not a Monty fan b/c of his Stanford days. And I feel his style is boring to watch and he underwhelms in recruiting. But that’s neither here nor there I suppose b/c he wins.

But damn we have a local 2 sport star and he eliminated Cal b/c of Tosh ? What does that say about our inability to recruit for basketball?

    Forgot to add DeCommits above.

Only a person who knows nothing about basketball would call Monty’s teams boring. He is the best coach by far that Cal has had since Newell, the only one that can be mentioned in the same breath with Newell.

His teams play great team basketball. This year there is a good chance that they win their second conference title in 3 years, after having gone 50 years without winning even one.

As for Armstead, maybe he would have been really good for basketball, hard to say. He certainly is not anywhere near as highly rated as a basketball player, as he is on the gridiron.

  • Juancho

Jim, whether a team is boring is a personal taste thing. He’s a good coach and they win. But to me the teams are boring to watch.

By the way I coach basketball in addition to baseball. Thanks for accusing me of knowing nothing about basketball. I’ll find time later to accuse you of knowing nothing about something or other.

  • rollonubears

I’m guessing about 20 folks got a nice chuckle during Antrhro 2 section when Arik Armstead was called, again and again. Bueller, Bueller?

  • The Wisdom Cow

Jim, I love Monty as a coach, but have absolutely confounded as to how he has not brought in a true big man yet. Given his track record with them and his style of utilizing talented ones, it makes no sense to me that the roster is not stocked. Instead, it remains thin, both it’s prospects and depth.

Just a few quality big bodies under his tutelage, and Cal would be a legitimate top 15 program. Arik would be a step in that direction.

How f*cked is this? We sign a great (and much needed) WR class and they take our WR position coach too. How is this ethical?

  • Juancho

    Im pissed. Now what ?

How impressive is this by the “ceo” of our program ?

Kiesaus gone. What an absolute joke. Kiss our class goodbye. Kiss our programs relevance goodbye until a new coach comes in.

Jeff turn this into a baseball blog.

  • rollonubears

Can Monty slap somebody up there for me?

This is ridiculous, but I don’t think it will create animosity within the coaching staff. My guess is that they are ALL getting massive raises up there. They’re “taking care of their employees” as it were. Emotions will be high. Enthusiasm up. Motivation at an all time high. It’s actually a brilliant strategy. First to do it wins. Now everyone else will have to follow suit, or fall by the wayside. Makes perfect sense, and this is why coaches make so much money. You can’t pay the players, so this is the next best thing. We’re looking at pro football here folks, with one tiny exception. And the TV deals and restructuring of all the conferences was just the next. This is the end of integrity within college football. It started with the BCS. Very very sad.

  • Juancho

Cant wait to see sandy at baseball fan appreciation day feb 11.

  • go8ears

    some twitter feeds:

    RGBearTerritory Ryan Gorcey
#Cal is the second-lowest paid coaching staff in the #Pac12, after Oregon State.

Kiesau making 240k at #Cal. Will make between 700k-800k as OC at #UW on a 3yr contract.

  • David

Kiesau is now UW’s OC. 700-800K / year, 3yr contract.

  • rollonubears

I think the best way to bring UWs program to its knees is to start cheering for them. It certainly works for Cal. I think I might try it.

So tired of this. Done for the day. Can’t handle any more stress.

The assault continues…it started with our OL coach a couple of years ago, then Lupoi and now we are about to lose our WR coach along with one of our best wr recruits to washington…what is with this guy and our program? Just when i was beginning to recover from Tosh’s departure and put things in perspective here we go all over again. this is quickly becoming the worst time of my tenure as a Cal fan, on par with ’07.

  • eric

If this happens, will those who bashed Tosh now bash Eric as a traitor and money whore?

Will anyone ask the hard questions why this is happening?

If it is true, will anyone ask why Tedford (apparently) did not offer to reduce his salary to keep these guys?

  • Suttree

If he got the OC position you can’t really blame him…just surprised Washington would make that move.

  • GoldenFlash

I have seen many of the comments calling Tosh a traitor and all sorts of other names. I bleed blue and gold but I don’t blame Tosh one bit. The deal in Washington makes perfect sense, especially if the rumors are true about how Tosh is treated at Cal.

In addition to a tripling your paycheck, Tosh also gets to be run defensive coordinator. This is very significant, especially for a young coach who has aspirations to be a HC someday. And one of the way to become HC is to be a DC. Tosh gets work with Justin Wilcox (someone who he has a very good relationship with), who Sarkisian just poached from Tennessee.

He doesn’t have a very good relationship with Pendergast: according to sources, the fake injury act was also Pendergast’s idea but Tosh was solely blamed for it.

Plus, you’re in a program where you bring home a huge cut of the pie but the program fails to give you any public recognition from it. ESPN calls you the best recruiter in the west but your own program doesn’t give you any public recognition or elevate you any higher than a position coach.

So yeah, this stings. But if I was in Tosh’s shoe, I would have done the same thing.

  • covinared

recruiting has to be the worst part of coaching: long hours away from home, lots of travel and ass kissing. Tosh paid his dues and got good results. Best of luck.

  • MoreNCsarecoming

After watching how pathetic your passing game has been why would you care if this coach leaves. You see this is why I say Cal “state” plays like a program cursed. You should be happy this guy took off.

  • Will

MoreNCS_are_ignored and sanctioned! troll post blocked

Anyone else picture Moren as a grown up version of Ralph Wiggum?

  • MoreNCsarecoming

It must suck to be the laughingstock of all of the college football programs right now.

A coach who gets docked for teaching players to feign injury against an opponent now leaves the school he graduated from and steals the recruits.

I bet you lose Moala too.

  • Will

Nah, Ralph gets more girls than Moren…
