Football: Anger booms punts in Shrine Game

Former Cal punter Bryan Anger averaged 60 yards on three punts Saturday, helping the West team to a 24-17 victory in the 87th annual East-West Shrine Game in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Anger, a three-time all-conference selection for Cal, had punts of 59, 60 and 61 yards.

“I came in this week hoping to display my abilities, primarily hangtime, and get my name out there as the top punter in the nation,” Anger said. “I am looking forward to kicking at the NFL Scouting Combine in February and then whatever else is to come afterwards.”

He said the entire experience, not just the game, was rewarding.

“I am very honored to have played in the East-West Shrine Game,” Anger said. “Tonight wrapped up a great week of activities, and I would like to thank all of the Shriners and their staff for making it such a memorable event.”

Whoa. We totally wasted him on those stupid rugby punts

Hope Anger makes it to the NFL. Go Bears!

The rugby style punts were beyond stupid.

  • Uh Huh!

Two yrs of dumb rugby punts. Only one fake that was unsuccessful. Should have just blocked properly and let him boom it. Knew it all along.

I had high hopes for the “new” special teams coach but now I’m wondering, “What the hell were you thinking?”

I know it’s raining in Northern Clifornia, but 4 out of 5 negative posts. Really.

It’s official: my head is going into the 707 sand and will next appear at the first game at the new Memorial.

Until then I will force myself to believe that all student-athletes are truly student-athletes and that all coaches are interested in helping these young men succeeed on the field and in the classroom.
