@Easy Ed – I did your post carefully. You stated that Tosh is unethical and would have bad-mouthed the program. You then said that you were fine with losing recruits that were loyal to Tosh because “kids that were loyal to him would have been a cancer on the team.” In other words, kids that come to Cal notwithstanding Tosh leaving are going to be cancers. Putting that such an assertion doesn’t make a lot of sense – if they stayed with Cal notwithstanding their loyality, it sounds like they were the better persons, not cancers – think about the guys Tosh did recruit over the last few years who are on the team now. All those great LBs and DEs we have. Should we assume they cancers?

I agree that Cal should have a solid recruiting class without Shaq, Armstead or the WR from Westlake Village. But the frustration is that Oregon, USC and perhaps now Washington keep pulling away from the rest of the conference with blue chip athletes. I love college football, but I get so sick of Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas, LSU and USC generally dominating the landscape every year. It’s because they pull in the most four and five star athletes every year.

Look at what Cal did with its only five-star athletes over the last 30 years – Russell White and DeSean Jackson. Both of those guys were program changers. If White wasn’t on the 91 team, arguably the greatest that Cal has produced in the modern era, they don’t win 10 games that season and dominate their New Year’s Day bowl. And if Jackson wasn’t in the program, take away three or four close wins that Cal got in 06 and 07.

I completely understand why Juancho and others are beside themselves for losing Armstead and now most probably Shaq from this year’s class. Guys like that can be the difference between 7 and 10 win seasons. It may also be the reason that five-star guys like Matt Barkley and Robert Woods lead USC to a national championship next season. Ugggh!

I can’t wait for signing day to come. Then we can go back to being anti vs. pro Tedford fans. At least we’re all already used to disagreeing on that front.
