Sigh, top of post got deleted somehow. I am basically stressing Esquire Joe's concerns. Not just here, people are far to confident in a team that an injury or flu bug could devastate in the standings and rankings.

Tourney. So, right off, you better hope that loss comes against the 2nd highest ranked team in the conference.

A loss down the stretch before the conference tournament is down right probable, ending with 3 on the road, two at elevation. A loss @CU looks like it could be overcome, but @Utah would be devastating. Not only would the RPI take a hit, but our Bears are literally one loss from 4th in the standings, 2 losses from 5th and an extra game in the conference tournament.

Keep rooting. Nothing is set yet.

Yikes! I can't help but be nervous that 3 of Cal's last 5 games are against RPI 100+ teams. Losses to those teams are real killers. And 2 of those 3 are on the road (where Cal has its struggles, even against bad teams).

I don't care that Utah likely will have lost 7 games in a row coming into next Thurs, that looks like a trap game for Cal, who might be tempted to look ahead to Colorado.

Then again, I'd rather they only lose one more game, have it be to Utah, and drop down to an 11 or 12 seed in the Tourney than have to be an 8 or 9 again.

Exactly what I have been saying. Cal is a near-lock to go dancing. RPI proves this. Cal is 20-6 overall, 10-3 in conference, 1st place overall and only needs to win 3 out of the last 5 conference games to make the NCAAs so long as 1 of the losses is NOT to Utah.

NCAA will not allow a regular season champ in a Big 6 conference to not go dancing. It is practically unheard of.

Fact: Cal's non-conference losses are to 3 teams easily inside the RPI top 50 (UNLV, SDSU, and Mizzou). They should have beaten SDSU in San Diego. The loss to AZ was close and doesn't hurt much. OSU and Wazzu losses were on the road and the diciest part of Cal's resume.

The Pac12 gets two in NCAAs - Cal and whomever wins the conference tourney. If that's Cal as well, expect a bid for Washington or Arizona as a #12 or #11 seed. I don't think 3 get in though.

Even better Sagarin ranks us #20 next to Louisville and way better than #48 San Diego State. Sagarin has us higher than Michigan, Purdue and Illinois in the Big Ten also Texas, Creighton, Virginia and Florida State.

I like it and if I smoked pot, I might love it!
