Creat8 a few months ago I was the only one complaining about Monty’s mediocre recruting. Once everyone is on board you may get more responses.

I know very little about basketball recruiting. Can anyone explain why Cal continues to struggle in basketball recruiting and has to take “walk-ons” or “projects” or “diamonds in the rough”, but these small schools like VCU, Murry State, Belmont, Creighton, Xavier, Butler, etc., get these huge, skilled, ballers that run the NCAA tournament every year?

Wehof there are no point guards available in the top 100 but Shooting Guard Torian Graham out of North Carolina is 4 stars and ranked #90.

NC State and Oregon made offers at one time but Duke and UNC NCState is loaded so they may not still be interested and competition for a spot there could be intense.

I would be happy if we got our share of the best California players but most schools recruit nationally.

Monty is using the “Pound(animal shelter)” theory of recruiting. He believes if we adopt an abandoned player no one else wants- perhaps their loyalty will pay off.

Johnson is a two star recruit another diamond in the rough of course. Only ASU showed interest. He’s probably housebroken though.

Meanwhile some big dogs go unsigned.

Concordbear the 55th ranked Robert Upshaw from Fresno 6’11 250 lb is still available

Also the #68 Cemter Christopher Obekwa (sp) is still available.

There are a few others in the ESPN Top 100 available. Al;l 4 stars or more. There are probably a Host of 3 star players available as well.

The late signing period goes through May 18.

Cal is still looking to add at least one more player and has made several offers.

Cal has typically recruited better in LA, so I wouldn’t say Bay Area players ‘stopped’ coming. Powe and Kidd are the only two I can think of over a lot of years. There may be more but framing it as some kind of rich history of local players is wrong. It would be great to get it going with Jabari Bird.

Just recruit the Bay Area better please….All the best players in the Bay Area have stopped going to Cal. Step it up!
