Softball: Bears one win away from World Series

Saturday, May 26th, 2012 at 10:53 pm in NCAA Tournament, Spring sports.
The top-seeded Golden Bears (55-5) blanked Washington 5-o in the NCAA softball super regionals at Levine-Fricke Field and need just one victory on Sunday to secure their 12th trip to the College World Series.
Slugger Valerie Arioto, rarely given a pitch to hit in recent games, blasted a two-run homer in the first inning and Jolene Henderson threw her 16th shutout of the season.
Arioto now has 23 home runs on the season — an ongoing school record — and 54 for her career.
Henderson improved to 5-0 in the postseason, her ERA dipping to 0.57 over the past two weekends.
Game 2 is Sunday at 4 p.m., with a third game, if necessary, at 6:30 p.m. The games are sold out, but will be aired on ESPN2.

Even if you’re not a softball fan- its worth watching just to see a Cal Team dominant on national TV.

Indeed! The band, and shots from Sproul and Strawberry Canyon make me miss the campus like never before. Great turnout for the game. This is what happens when you’re #1 in a sport that’s televised. We need to get back to our 2007 ways again. Go Bears!

I know I’m gonna get grief but the 2nd baseman is a Hottie a and she hit a HR.
Balling. Go Bears!

We won and never gave up a run in the Super Regional.
We will lose some great seniors but have some great returners too. This is the year to watch though.

Rollon -Right its great to see pictures of Cal during the game. I’m so far away and we have no mountains. Best was seeing Sproul Hall yesterday – I used to spend much of my days sitting on the steps with my friends. There was always something going on and lots to see.
