Baseball: No Bears, no surprise in NCAA field

The NCAA baseball tournament field was released today and, to the surprise of no one, Cal did not make the cut.

Five Pac-12 teams are in the field: Stanford, UCLA, Oregon, Oregon State and Arizona. The Cardinal will host a regional, beginning Friday with a first-round game vs. Fresno State.

For those interested, here’s the NCAA tournament bracket.

The Bears’ season ended Sunday with a 5-3 loss at Stanford. Cal wound up 29-25 overall, 12-18 in Pac-12 play.

Sad, but always next year. I think baseball is the one of the major sports wherel coaching really has little to do with results. We just didnt have the horses this year at the plate or on the bump. Hopefully we get a great class which already includes goff and i pray will include eddie vanderdoes on the hill.

Daddy and I saw a car today that had a very large ‘O’ sticker on the rear windshield and at the bottom a very very small ‘cal’ sticker.

Daddy said “I guess the driver of this car isn’t a woman’s softball fan.”

HAHAHAHA. No more money from Daddy to your football program until JT is gone.

ASU would have made tournament if they were not hammered by ncaa. Cal should have made it. A lot of things did not come together for this team. 1B Rodriguez got hurt and no one ever established themselves at SS. Defense was bad all season. Pitching was hurt by Jones poor year, Scott’s up and down campaign and Porter’s mia season. Win 2 more Pac games somewhere and we would have been in. Overall a very disappointing season. Never thought Tony Renda would go out missing NCAA’s…

Concord, I hate to disagree with you, and it’s especially hard b/c baseball is my main sport – but Cal did not deserve to make it. A losing record in conference is too much to overcome. Even had we made it to a regional we wouldn’t have been able to win it.

They pitched Flemer twice in three days to close out the season. Had the staff had an inkling we’d be in the regionals they never would have done that. They knew the season was over, and rightfully so. The team has a lot of heart. But this team isn’t as talented as last year’s squad.

Any chance you can do a story about the Cal baseball season? Wonder how a team with some good talent returning from a #5 finish last year missed NCAA’s.
Maybe an interview with the coach about this year and what to look forward to next spring.
He was the National coach of the year last year and knows his stuff.
