Softball: Oklahoma’s Ricketts mows down Bears

Pitcher Keilani Ricketts struck out 16 batters and fourth-seeded Oklahoma dominated No. 1 Cal 3-0 in their second-round matchup in the College World Series.

The Bears (57-6) play Saturday at 6:30 p.m. PDT against the winner of Saturday’s earlier game between Tennessee (52-13) and Oregon (44-17).

Ricketts, who attended high school at Archbishop Mitty in San Jose, certainly demonstrated she was worthy of the national player of the year award she picked up earlier this week. She pitched a 2-hitter against one of the nation’s top offensive teams and struck out the side in the first, third and fourth innings.

Ricketts has an ERA of 0.16 in NCAA tournament play.

Cal was shut out for just the third time all season.

Jolene Henderson (37-3) allowed five hits, walked four and struck out six.

Oklahoma (52-8) got an RBI double from Lauren Chamberlain in the third inning and a solo homer from Georgia Casey in the sixth.
