I wouldn’t mind having two sec team in different brackets, as long as the officials aren’t sec. At least then they might have nobody in the final at all, and would have to earn it otherwise.

I agree with BlakeStreet. A four team playoff pretty much ensures that some sort of polling or computerized rankings will be used to determine the ‘final four’. And, unless someone comes up with a way to be politically correct and make sure that all 4 teams don’t come from the same or only two conferences, there will likely be more of the arguments and disputes about which conferences should be included in the final four. As JF says, many questions need to be answered, but if the new system results in only one additional game to the current status quo, this in no way can truly be called a ‘playoff’.

A 4-team “playoff”?? That isn’t much of a playoff imho. I’d rather see a straightforward top-10 AP poll playoff. The top 6 teams get a first round bye. Or a top-12 AP poll playoff where the top 4 teams get a first round bye. 4 teams does not a playoff make, unless it was MLB back in ’93. 103 wins wasn’t enough for the Giants…poor Solomon Torres…anyway…

With just 4 teams, 2 will no doubt be from the SleazeEC, on opposite sides of the bracket so that they can meet in the “National Championship Game”. What a frickin joke. NCAA football is such a scam and in no other place but America would the fans allow this “competition” to name a “champion”. Champions win a real tournament, not a couple of games. How many games did UofA just have to win to win the NCAA baseball championship? Prolly 20 at least. boo to this “playoff”, it sux.

Actually, Rollon, the article says “no announcement on which bowls will host the games following the fall season of 2014″. Besides, they can’t really change the system in the midddle of a regular season-post season cycle, can they?

BlueNGold, this part is what confused me

The big bowls are mostly in 2015, for the 2014 season. So I was still confused, but SI.com set me straight. Even espn didn’t explain it properly. By the way, the first game will be on December 31, 2014, the second on New Year’s Day, 2015, and the first championship will be a monday or two after that. All according to SI.

Bigdruid, I hope you’re right, but 12 years seems like a long time to make another change. I suppose I won’t mind much if we crack that top 4 a couple times in that period.

@Rollonubears: I’m actually pleased to see us getting a playoff, and I think it’s just a first step. Inevitably we’ll move in the direction you suggest, but you’re not going to get a bunch of people relying financially on the status quo to make a huge jump immediately.

2014 season, meaning 2015 bowls? or 2014 bowls meaning 2013 season? this is a lame idea. better than what we have, but lame. we should let the bowls go back to the way they used to be, seeding the top 8 in those bowls, then take the winners of those for a two-week, two game playoff. as long as we’re going to destroy the integrity of the rose bowl, we might as well do it right. you should have to win your bowl game to play in the final 4. now we could easily have, and probably will have 2 SEC teams in the final 4 every year. totally ridiculous.
