So much about so little just like UCB’s claim to be the no 1 public university. What a farce!

Ratings have nothing to do with undergraduate schools. Ratings are about graduate schools. 98% of the undergrads at UCB never matriculate into graduate programs at UCB. So big deal about the rating. It is meaningless unless you advance into graduate programs and even then you don’t really meet with a top notch professor until you get into your 1st year of PhD work.

is there any way to get a script for safari? i used to love firefox, but i’ve given it a few chances since it started crashing on me all the time, and it continues to. plus, i can’t watch my slingbox with it.

Two issues here — yes the polls are a joke (popularity contest where you vote, sorry, your proxy votes, your conference first, and then for a bunch of teams you have never seen play), but that still does not excuse lying about how you did vote (especially when you don’t have to disclose it in the first place). Then when you are called for it, you try to distract attention from your misdeed by blaming the polls. It may work for some, but I am not buying it.

Kudos to Larry Scott. Who can forget watching Tom Hansen’s pitiful interviews in 2004 after we got hosed out of the BCS? No defense of the conference; just blather. Good for him for calling out the polls as nothing but BcS.

Polls are polls. Its another form of a popularity contest. I would not be surprised if most sportswriters who vote in the AP poll do not spend a lot of time researching all the games before voting, either. They probably look at the scores and the basic stats, maybe some individual stats. That is why the poll results have been such an unsatisfactory basis for team rankings and playoff berths over the years.

I’m glad Scott is calling out what everyone has long known – the coaches poll has always been a joke, and the fact that it has been a determinant in the BCS selection process taints every national champion in that era. At least the AP poll did the honorable thing after the Mack Brown whore-fest in 2004.
