Football: ESPN ranks Bears’ schedule as 10th toughest in the country; Notre Dame is No. 1

ESPN.com gives Cal’s schedule a nod as the 10th-toughest in the land. But the Bears have just the second-most challenging schedule among teams in the Pac-12, with Washington checking in at No. 3 on the list.

Notre Dame, whose schedule includes road games against Michigan State, Oklahoma and USC, home games against Michigan and Stanford, and a matchup vs. Miami at Chicago’s Soldier Field, sits atop the list. Yeah, no kidding.

Elsewhere . . .

 — The Reno Gazette-Journal profiles San Leandro High grad Lenny Jones, who will make his college debut as a starting defensive end for the Wolf  Pack at Cal on Saturday.

A billboard near the UCLA campus promoting USC quarterback Matt Barkley was stripped or blacked out — and no one is taking responsibility for it.

Schedule rankings is just outside noise.
All teams in BCS conferences face challenges each season.
The best teams are not affected by noise and win tough games.
Hope our program is ready to win big.
    Go Bears!

Notre Dame toughest schedule? Unless its done by computer its probably just spin for the media darlings.

What the media never mentioned (except in El Paso) was Notre Dame threatened to sue tiny Cathedral High School in El Paso for using a “Fighting Irish” Logo which they had used for 87 years. Cathedral is a fine school but short on funds so they had to back down. In Texas High Schools honor colleges by using their moniker- there are plenty of Longhorns and Aggies among the many football teams.

I know I will have to read about Notre Dame everywhere this fall but please not here too.
