Football: No news yet on injured Bears

Had our weekly Sunday afternoon with Jeff Tedford, who reported there is no update yet on OLB Chris McCain (shoulder) or TE Richard Rodgers (foot), both injured Saturday against Southern Utah.

Tedford said both had MRI exams earlier in the day, but results were not available.

OT Matt Summers-Gavin (knee), who sat out the Southern Utah game, will be evaluated on a daily basis this week, Tedford said. MSG likely won’t practice until at least midweek, and will make the trip to Ohio State, regardless of whether he suits up to play.

Meanwhile, there is still no clear timetable for ILB Khairi Fortt, the Penn State transfer who underwent knee surgery last spring before arriving in Berkeley. He will not play this week.

Elsewhere . . .

– Junior Keenan Allen was honored as a national Punt Returner Performer of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards following his 69-yard return against Southern Utah.

Allen ranks fourth nationally in punt return average at 22.2 yards per.

Hope all the young Bears recover soon. But imo msg is key if we’re to have any chance of a split on the osu/$c road trip. Yeah, I know, stupidly optimistic.

    Go Bears! Never give up.

MSG is important, but McCain is also a big loss if he’s out for a long time. When the injury happened and I saw it was him, I groaned. I just hope it’s a sprain or something and not a broken clavicle or something like that.

We’ve been playing poorly, but I’m hoping the first game was working out the bugs, and the second was just a lack of interest in an FCS opponent. We did bounce back from a horrible debut in ’06, though that was against better competition.

Agree with you deltha. Im actually curious to see if we consider going away from the 3-4. Originally we went to a 3-4 bc of linebacker depth. But that seems to be out the window.

I could suit up if they need me. I have all 4 years of eligibility left.

Speaking of Khairi Fortt… he did not look good Saturday. We watched him walk in through the tunnel and he is walking with a major limp. I highly doubt we see him play this season.

Time to start reading up on the Suckeyes.

Suckeyes? Meyer and his Buckeyes don’t need any more inspiration to beat down Cal.
