Jeff Tedford today confirmed that OT Matt Summers-Gavin (knee) will not play at Ohio State on Saturday. He will miss his second straight game and will be replaced in the starting lineup by junior Bill Tyndall.
Tedford said MSG is week to week.
The news was better for OLB Chris McCain and TE Richard Rodgers, both listed as probable.
Here’s my Cal notebook.

I like what I’m hearing from the team. Yeah. I’m continuing to be stupidly optimistic.
Glad jt learned and is flying the team on thursday again.
Thought the line woulda moved but still holding at 17. I still think by thurs/fri the “professional” bettors are going to jump on osu +17 unless…

Maybe Tedford can channel the memories of 10 years ago, when he took an unproven Cal football team into East Lansing, Michigan and upset Top 25 Michigan State. That was the win that put Tedford and Cal on the national map.
But I don’t see too many similarities, either. Tedford had Kyle Boller quarterbacking the team, and he was good enough to get drafted in the first round of the NFL after that season. Maynard ain’t gonna see the light of the CFL let alone the NFL. And I don’t like what I’m reading about the team chemistry.
OSU – 42-17.

Pete Carroll is coming next year. That rumor won’t go away.

For pure speculation and rumor, I prefer Herm Edwards.

Any particular reason why you’d want a head coach with no college coaching experience and a losing regular season and post-season record in the nfl, over a guy who’s college teams were perennial national title contenders?

Herm Edwards, I like it!
