Cal football is probably one of the top 40 coaching jobs in the country, not sure how I came up with that stat.

BigD and Roll, I completely agree with your analysis of sb.

I'm most of the way off the jt bandwagon so if we don't get to at least 7-5 - which means splitting this 2 game road trip - he's gone. But there's no need for the ad to do unseemly and craven cya pub like d guerro(sp) did at ucla - but it seems like he finally found at real deal hc in mora.

Go Bears! Beat osu!

another thing to consider is maintaining the attractiveness of a coaching position here. we've demonstrated a commitment to our head coaches. if someone wants to settle down in northern ca and put down roots, we'll give them that chance. it might mean we hold onto guys a little longer than we should, but it's better than not having a shot at those kinds of characters in the first place. if tedford was blown out the day after losing the nevada game, for example, i'm not sure that would send a great message to prospects. this isn't exactly notre dame. people aren't falling all over themselves to coach here. but the facilities should help a lot.

I think we can look at Barbour's actions with Braun as a guide here - she gave Braun a pretty long leash and didnt tip her hand about deadlines, must-win seasons, etc. But when the time came, she let him go.

So expect her to act professionally - public support for the coach, no juicy quotes for the press or fans, etc. But she has shown her willingness to let a coach go if he is not able to challenge for a championship. Maybe not as quickly as some fans want, though - she is pretty deliberate (and even now I wonder if she would have fired Braun when she did if Monty wasn't looking for a college job)...

Columbus, Ohio ---

Greetings Bear fans.

Calbearclaw and ThisisCal had the opportunity to briefly chat with AD Sandy Barbour late Thursday evening at the downtown Renaissance Hotel.

Barbour arrived along with whoever qualifies to travel with her to road games, a varied selection Cal types of unknown origin.

To her credit, Barbour fielded our queries as she prepared to depart the lounge area around midnight.

We pressed her on the perceived lack of urgency from herself and her office regarding the declining fortunes of our football program.

Before we could even form a question, Barbour interjected with the type of hackneyed cliche we've all grown so tired of.

"We need to win," she observed. "We need to win."

PART II Tomorrow
