Football: Bears feeling confident, motivated after loss at Ohio State and with USC next

Here’s my notebook following Cal’s weekly press conference.

The Bears are eager to face USC after a loss at Ohio State that left them disappointed but encouraged.

Recent history doesn’t suggest good things. Cal has dropped its past eight meetings with the Trojans.

Cal faces a USC team coming off a 21-14 loss at Stanford that dropped the Trojans 11 spots to No. 13 in this week’s Associated Press Top-25. The loss also prompted coach Lane Kiffin to offer some criticism of quarterback Matt Barkley, who threw interceptions on back-to-back pass attempts.

Barkley, who never has beaten Stanford, said the criticism was warranted and he welcomed it.

They may start a freshman, Teurek, at left tackle. If the Center is still hurting as well, Clancy will be sending pressure galore after Barkley just like Stafurd did.

My hopes are much higher than than they were two weeks ago, though I can’t say I’d place much money on our boys. Some, I’ll always be willing to lose some, just not too much.

  • ConcordBear

If our team bows to sc they way they have done for the past 4 years we have no chance. Only way we can play with them is if we believe we can beat them.
But, it takes more than just playing well and hanging in their to win!
    We’ll see

No one expects us to win this game. So let’s just blitz with reckless abandon and plant Mr. Pre-Ordained Heisman’s butt onto the grass.

  • milo

No way Barkley can win the H if his own coach Kiffie is bagging on him.

    HAHAHAHA…typical loser UCB state mentality.

“No one” expects us to win translates to “I, Will, don’t expect us to win”. Coward.

“let’s plant Mr, Pre-Ordained Heisman’s butt onto the grass” translated means if we do that enough in Saturday’s game we can claim another moral victory. we maybe able to say that we won the game because we had the better stats.

It won’t be the first time UCB state fans promote that kind of lunacy. I remember the 2004 game. Once losers, always losers.

At USC we expect the best play and we don’t offer excuses when it doesn’t happen.

Notice how our players “man-up”. Matt’s mea culpa was sincere and real. At USC no player is allowed to call out fans unlike your players who call your fans “fake fans” and we definitely do not have board moderators like Moraga Bear apologizing to the players.

When losses are considered moral victories and when players are allowed to talk back to their coaches without discipline then you have the reasons for why you are rightfully called –

    Losing is in your DNA.

troll boy is having a great time this week. It’s entertaining. Makes this blog all the more fun

  • scottybear

“We” expect the best play??!! “WE” !! Since when did you play for USC? Since when did you even go to classes there?? I’ll ask you for the 14th time: When have you ever played in an organized football game with pads on? Ever!! Man up, you fast shitting little dog. WE all want to know. Plus, you were going to disappear this week, remember. Barkley’s own coach dumped on him this week. All is not well in Watts, oh, pardon me, the USC campus.

    It’s football
    Bring it!
    Go Bears!!!

  • rotfogel

I loved watching the Bears begging to execute well. There’s no reason to believe they won’t continue to get better and execute better.

If they can continue to play crisp football, on both sides, they will end up winning their share of games.

So far: 0-0 in Pac 12 play.

    Go Bears!

I don’t use Grease Monkey. Its not because I like to see worthless and childlike sparring back and forth. But there is something to be said about seeing how sad life can get, so that you stand back and appreciate your own life more. So no Grease Monkey for me. Instead I just note that its great to have College Football in our lives to keep the fires burning while we all (or most of us) continue to be productive forces in society. Go Bears!

    Hey MoreNCsarecoming,
How does Stanford taste? Does it taste like “No_NCarecoming?”.

  • BlueNGold

    Goodbye to No. 1 ranking;
    Goodbye to Barkie’s heisman hopes;
    Goodbye to aspiring to greatness after coming off 2 years of exile for being the sleazy cheaters;
Goodbye to those schollies that have kept LA’s only pro football team respectable all those years.

  • calbearclaw

MoreVDs: Not from LA, and didn’t go to USC. Now that, my friends, is the textbook definition of a fake fan. He also roots for the Yankees, Manchester City, MIchael Phelps, and of course the Miami Heat/LA Lakers, depending on who wins the championship. Must be nice.

Somehow the last thing I associate with a Berkeley alum is the term “loser.” Quite the opposite in fact. I always look forward to that point in a conversation with a stranger where I get to proclaim my alma mater. The impressed response is always a pleasure.

Go Bears. Oh, and we’re winning Saturday.

  • covinared

We matched up well with them last year. we got killed by turnovers, mostly bad passes.

What we haven’t been able to stop the last two years is barkley’s play action roll out right, especially on third down. browner would drop off and give barkley all day 2 years ago. Last Mccain put on pressure, but he still got the key passes off. Clancy needs to work on that.

    Use greasemonkey.

None of you know anything about football and I hate to see you guys emabarass and humiliate yourselves.

The deal stands losers. Take me up on my bet which was offered to BlueNGold the start of the season. Predict the exact score of this Saturday’s game between your team vs USC or the exact number of points scored by both teams and I will leave this blog for good. However if you predict wrongly you leave. Which one of you fake fans will step it up?

BTW is there anyway I can contact that player of yours. I think he should trademark his “fake fans” statement. He is onto something.

  • calbearclaw

    Stop ducking the pertinent questions:

    1. Did you receive a diploma from USC?

    2. Were you ever matriculated there at any point?

    3. Did you grow up in Los Angeles County?

    4. If you answered no to the preceding inquiries, kindly remind us why you have any grounds whatsoever to root for this particular school.

  • MoreNCsarecoming

There is one pertinent question which I have offered to everyone of you at the very beginning of the season and successively as each game has gone by.

Take me up on my offer or use greasemonkey. Fake fans are not wanted on this blog.

  • BlueNGold

Seems to me that the only “fake fan” on this blog is moron, who does not belong here and never has. So, HIT THE ROAD, JACK as “fake fans are not wanted on this blog”.

BTW, the above quote is the only truthful statement that moron has EVER posted here. LOL. Not only a troll, but a fool who shoots itself in the foot as well. What a sorry azz loser you are, moron.

  • calbearclaw

    Answer the questions coward.

  • calbearclaw

Most fans of college football teams would have no problem fielding those questions. But you do. Why? Because that would expose you as being as laughable as a Lane Kiffin promise. All we need to know. So who are you rooting for this year, Heat or Lakers? Or will you wait to see who wins the championship? You are an unprecedented, unabridged, pan-seared, small batch, artisanal moron. I mean that.
