Basketball: Indiana No. 1 in preseason poll; Arizona, UCLA only ranked Pac-12 teams

Indiana is the preseason No. 1 in the AP Top-25 poll that has only two representatives from the Pac-12 Conference.

Arizona checks in at No. 12, with UCLA one spot behind. The Bruins’ prospect depend on the eligibility of two elite freshmen, Shabazz Muhammad and Kyle Anderson, neither of whom is yet cleared by the NCAA to play.

Cal plays two non-conference games against teams ranked in the preseason poll: Dec. 2 at No. 23 Wisconson, and Dec. 9 at home vs. No. 18 UNLV.

Here’s the poll.

  1. I’m not going to complain about being #1 although the top 5 teams are all great.
I saw Alan Crabbe ranked pretty highly at his position.
Ihope Monty can grab some other top recruit.

  2. “only two representatives from the Pac-12 Conference.”

Hey, that looks pretty good in comparison to last year. Let’s see how long UCLA and UofA can stay there and hopefully be joined by some others.

  3. Aztecs start at #20, the lowest of all the various pre-season polls. The chance to move dramatically starts in game 1- vs. #9 Syracuse on November 9, under the stars on the deck of the de-commisioned USS Midway. Gonna be epic.

Sad that Cal is getting, and maybe not deserving, any love pre-season.

  4. Dan Cal is not getting any love or specifically any votes because as I had predicted a few years ago , the program is heading in the wrong direction. MOnty has picked up recruiting this season and that’s a good sign, but it looks like UCLA and Arizona have leap-frogover us again. NOt sure about the rest of the league though.
