The local media know what is coming down.
Cal has a very important stretch between now and signing day and I’m glad writers are spelling it out publicly.
Cal must make a statement by hiring a great man to lead our football program and articulate what they are doing to provide everything the new coach needs to win big.
In going after new blood Cal needs to use the Bay Area to its advantage and pay competitive salaries/help get them set up with housing. Coaches with families need to be shown the great local public school systems that are close to Campus in places like Piedmont and Orinda. Plenty of great private schools in Berkeley and Oakland right next to campus. So commutes won’t be a problem and families will have the best in the US available to them.
The Bay Area is the best place to live and with the new facilities Cal should be able to attract a great coach that will want to live and compete to be the best here.
It’s up to Cal now to highlight everything good about our campus and area plus do more than they have ever done to support the new coach and his staff.
Time to join the big leagues.
UC’s move and opportunity to shine!

I keep trying to come up with head coaching names to replace Tedford and nothing instantly pops into my head…most likely due to post traumatic syndrome caused by witnessing the decline that began when he slammed his headset to the ground after Riley ran around like a chicken with his head cut off.

Who would be best to take over this program and take it where it deserves to be?

  • Juancho

I just emailed the AD my reasons on why I think it’s time for a coaching change. I suggest you guys do the same. Let’s focus our energy on that, before we get surprised Monday by an announcement that Tedford is coming back.

there are a lot of great potential coaches out there that none outside the business know about. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a household name.

  • Juancho

I volunteer to keep tally of how many emails the Bear Talk Blog contributed to the coaching change.

    Currently we’re at:

    1 – Juancho, who wants to be # 2

Willie Taggart is the man I hope will be wearing the headset for the Cal Spring game. I think he will recruit the hell outta NorCal and the South, he is young, energetic and has an incredible relationship with the man who is probably the best football coach on planet right now: Jim “the Genius II” Harbaugh. They were each other’s best men in their respective weddings…just sayin…

Or anyone else who has worked closely with Harbaugh over the last few seasons…I just have faith in that guy, too much faith?

    Just sent my email…

  • Juancho

    Were at 2.

    Juancho, blakestreet

put me down as #3. Just sent her an email although I had already expressed my concerns in person when I met her a few weeks back.

  • Eric

    I sent my e-mail.

  • Eric

By the way, Sandy responded within 5 minutes. I wonder if it is a form response.

  • BlakeStreetBear

I got the following response from “SB” within an hour of sending my email:

“Thanks for your message. As a community, as alumni, and as current students at Berkeley, we all deserve a football program that represents excellence on and off the field. As the end of the season approaches, we will work diligently in the off season to insure that we take the appropriate steps to return our program to that cherished position.

Thanks for your support of our student athletes and your loyalty to Cal.

    Go Bears!

    SB”

I do think that the line “…program that represents excellence on and off the field.” is telling: Sandy (and the other high-ups) know that JT is failing the university in the classroom as well. For Cal to have a lower APR than EVERY sec team looks REALLY bad for the university. Change is afoot…soon…

  • 1brsfan

let’s see if I get the same response.

  • Eric

I got the same response. Form e-mail.

  • BlueNGold

People do you really think SB sits around her office all day reading and responding to email? Her staff does that, just like the staff of each team responds to the emails sent to the coach. It is just the way these things are done. The same staff people probably characterize the nature of each mail and tally the ones in each category, too.

  • Juancho

    I haven’t got a response.

  • wehofx

    email sent.

  • BlueNGold

Juancho I thought you sent a very thoughtful email. Please keep us posted as to any response you receive.

  • Uh Huh!

#18: Well, you should know, if you email, or post, too often, that address becomes labelled as SPAM and so your email to Sandy probably went straight to the poop shoot. Consider creating a new name and style for yourself and try again. I bet you’ll get the time of day (form letter) in return.
Sorry, I couldn’t refuse. (chuckle) Just look at #2 above.
