Sportskaster’s point about this selection being a hope and a prayer is on target. As trite as this is, it is what it is so get over it. Hey with a good class, the right D and special team coaches, this may be SB’s finest hour, time will tell. This guy is a QB and wide receiver’s dream choice.

Dykes is going to get his hands on more talent in his first recruiting class at Cal than he’s had in all his time coaching at Texas Tech, Arizona and Louisiana Tech. I’m really beginning to feel good about this hire.

Dykes may turn out to be OK, but for now he’s a C-lister. Don’t the Bears deserve better? Look at all the quality coaches in the Pac-12–Kelly,Shaw,Mora, Rich Rod, Kiffin, Sark…

Look at what Mora did with essentially the same team (though with a more developed Hundley) at UCLA.
Is Dykes capable of that kind of miracle?

So look at what Cal adds to this impressive list of coaches–Sonny Dykes from some dinky school in the deep South.

I would have gladly taken some of the SEC leftovers, like guys fired from Kentucky (Joker Phillips) and Tennessee (Derek Dooley. They’re better bets than Dykes.

Hopefully, lurking somewhere in Dykes is a Chip Kelly, aching to get out.

Hope I’m wrong. I’ll be pulling for him. But he’s a long shot.

My point is that Cal should be past settling for long shots.

He will lose weight when he gets here as his diet will probably change. The South is infamous for the region’s trademark fried and fatty foods. I bet he will miss them though haha.

Juancho- maybe we do have some draw. Word is he turned down offers from SEC team, B1G and Slow team and ACC team to take Cal job. If true then maybe we got one of the better options out there. Maybe it took SB longer as he pondered his options and negotiated with Cal.

Daredevil, the shame of it all is I can’t pursue either this evening. I’m on board with Sonny Side Up. I’m worried about how out of shape he is. Can you imagine if he bulks up like Tedford did ? We could have a Mangino on our hands in a few years.

Hopefully everything works out. The D question is bigger than the coordinator though. I’m hoping he tweaks his offense to incorporate some pro-set to at least have that capability to pivot in games where we need to eat clock.

Kind of exciting. Kind of worrisome. Which I guess is the case every time there’s a new coach.

Hire does show we definitely don’t have the draw we might have thought.

As to close the Tedford chapter and open the Dykes chapter, we need a half-back pass to a wide open WR on the first play against Northwestern!

At first I didn’t think much about Dykes. But after he was hired, I am hearing good things about his coaching style as far as his players respecting him and stay out of trouble. They go to class and generally do well in the class etc. I think we are headed in the right direction there.

More powerful offense then Tedfords in the past 3 years, headed in the right direction there.

I think a solid DC would put us over the top. I say 7-5 or 8-4 next season, then Rose Bowl in 2014!

Juancho, how are you? Nothing some alcohol and carnal fun can’t cure I hope. I choose to believe that Dykes + Kline + defensive studs will take us to the promise land. Sometimes to become happy…you just need to decide to.
