Not sure I am thrilled with this hire. Very unproven DC. I guess we wait and see. PS: Utah State DC turned job down because he is next in line for HC job after Petersen leaves this season.

Concord even jfs post says aranda was offered. Id rather have buh.

But the press is saying aranda turned it down. And buh was then offered late saturday / early sunday.

Nothing wrong with a second choice when 1 and 2 are essentially even. Except buhs a prime time recruiter and aranda is not.

Wisdom, Buh was the only person SD offered DC job too.
Other reports are not accurate.

I can’t say I’m thrilled about a shift back to the 4-3. It works great if you can get the top DLs in numbers, which is hard to do. It’s much easier to land a college player that reaches impact size and strength for LB at 19-20 yrs old then for the DL.

Cal has a bunch of hybrid LB/DEs already, and hopefully someone like Scarlett can make the move easy enough. The roster should be able to make the transition.

My problem is not with scheme, so much, though blitz packages can be much more varied and harder on opposing QB with the 3-4. It’s simply a matter of needing to recruit more of the players every school is trying to grab, the big already DLs. If they can win the recruiting wars, and keep the guys healthy, it can be a great D.

Great argument, though, huh? What program doesn’t succeed if they are recruiting the top OL and DL players?

With the 3-4, you HAVE to have elite NGs or the system fails. So, it isn’t like it’s all that much easier to recruit for. Just a bit of a numbers game I think favors the 3-4 overall (easier to hit on 1 great NG and 2 very good DEs than 4 very good DLs, given the competition over the big bodies), especially when you factor in that the recruited LB athletes are usually easier to move to other positions to get something out of them if LB doesn’t work out as planned.

Buh was the guy our head coach wanted.
A lot of people called Sonny out and said we should have hired so many other guys, it’s looking like all the internet experts are saying the same about Buh.
These guys have a lot to prove.
We’ll see what they got!!!

Buh works. Can’t say he is The Man, but his recruiting experience, along side Stewart, should keep the D loaded with athletes.
