By Jeff Faraudo
Wednesday, December 26th, 2012 at 8:11 pm in Alumni, Football, Honors.
Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez earned his 12th Pro Bowl selection as one of four ex-Cal players named to the NFL’s annual all-star game.
Also securing spots were Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch and Redskins special team player Lorenzo Alexander.
**** Also, Cal offensive lineman Brian Schwenke accepted an invitation to participate in the Senior Bowl all-star game, Jan. 26 in Mobile, Ala. Schwenke will join Cal cornerback Marc Anthony, who previously was named to the game.
The 64th Senior Bowl will be televised at 1 p.m. PT on the NFL Network.

Lynch is having a super year #2 behind Peterson. I remember not long ago Aaron Rodgers begged GB to acquire him from Buffalo. Considering GB’s horrid running game it would have been a superbowl decision.

Its time to translate some of our NFL calibre talent to some great college seasons.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:11 am
It would be interesting to see a list of the colleges that have the most former players in the pro bowl.
December 27th, 2012 at 11:25 am
Greatest TE ever!
December 27th, 2012 at 11:48 am
Juancho can put that pro bowl research together.
Brethren. As you know san jose state is my adopted second team. Bc theyre public local and also have a rivalry with the dweebs in palo alto.
Their bowl game is at noon on espn. Lets root for an sjsu win.
December 27th, 2012 at 12:01 pm
Thanks, Juancho. I have been asking you too much to do research I am interested in, so I decided not to ask you, personally, to do it. Not really necessary, but I think readers of this blog would be interested in seeing it.
Did you decide to take your short vacation in the Bay Area and what area did you choose?
I still think that getting some of the people who comment on this blog together to have a few beers together would be fun. I suggest after a weekend practice in the fall (now open to the public, since Scrooge Tedford is now gone) at Pappy’s. If you think it is a good idea, I’ll let you organize it.

Gobears i think im deciding where to spend a few days next week. Amazing to have 17 days off.
Im currently amidst a roving tour of mania and carnal pursuits as i explore san franciscos bars. I live there.
Imagine how fun itd be to setup a BTB gameday viewing group ? Maybe we can get that in motion next season.
December 27th, 2012 at 12:09 pm
Yeah! BTB Bash! ima down.
Thomas DeCoud got robbed.
AR and TG are both locks for HOF!
December 27th, 2012 at 12:12 pm
You fellas think Cal will produce less nfl talent now due to the change ? Seems like oregon and other spread teams produce less draft picks. I wonder if its a trade off.
December 27th, 2012 at 12:30 pm
Juancho,
Don’t think there is much of a trade off. Defensive players are obviously not impacted by what type of offense its team uses. We could debate which offensive positions are impacted by the spread, but I think that the QB position would be most affected (though I think this would be minimal, as most pro teams don’t run exclusively out of the T formation), and Cal only has one player in the pro’s who plays QB. But I would be interested in reading what other people think of this issue.
December 27th, 2012 at 3:21 pm
Cal currently has 31 players in the NFl about 10 more than Stanford. Here’s the entire list.

December 27th, 2012 at 8:36 pm
SteveNTexas,
Good list, and probably the most important one, but the question I asked was the number of players from each school (or just the top ten schools) who are playing in this season’s Pro Bowl.
December 27th, 2012 at 8:38 pm
Juancho,
Better yet, this blog group could get together after this year’s final spring practice, which certainly would be held on a Saturday. The beer afterward could make it easier for us to imagine Cal playing in the Rose Bowl, and soon.

Twitter Rumor:
>>>@GregBiggins
Auburn (Calif.) Placer DL Eddie Vanderdoes has de-committed from #USC and is opening up the recruiting process>>>>
Step 1. Step 2: As soon as dead period is over, Coaches Buh and Sacks gotta convince Eddie to become a BEAR! (then Hutchings)
Go Bears!
December 27th, 2012 at 10:54 pm
Youre right gobears.
Wehofx i cant help but point out that BTB recruiting vp juancho mentioned a while back that big v would decommit. As will hutchings.
These are our guys. Both are local and grew up cal fans. These are the guys cal cant miss.
Wisdom your brother juancho is worried about you.
December 28th, 2012 at 7:40 am
Gobears Yes I understand you wanted the pro bowl numbers but that would take more research than just a few Google Clicks.
Thats’ why we have Juancho.
Yes the group could get together down here in Rockport. Its usually low 70s and the water’s good even in January.
December 28th, 2012 at 10:02 am
So it looks like vanderdoes doesnt have us in his new finalists. He has notre dame ucla and tosh. But that all can change.
December 28th, 2012 at 10:33 am
#15 Indeed you did my BTB Brother and Recruiting VP.
#17 Bummer. We’ll see if Buh and Sacks got game.
Over/Under Number of 4/5 Stars we land: 2.5

You think we should be worried about Cameron Hunt?
December 28th, 2012 at 11:30 am
From the stuff ive read hes the one commit that has softened his commitment. I believe he was quite taken by michigans offer. Did we hire an o line coach yet ?
Hunt has official visits in january to ann arbor and to eugene. Oregon hasnt offered him yet. But they probably will on his visit.
December 28th, 2012 at 12:55 pm
I forgot we hired thomsen as o line coach.
December 28th, 2012 at 8:08 pm
lol. still here, juancho. hosted x-mas. exhausted beyond that which mere mortals can endure. I need more recruiting rumors to provide energy.
December 28th, 2012 at 8:11 pm
Glad our resident bovine is alive and well.
December 29th, 2012 at 7:21 pm
Wow, did Mike Riley coach away a victory in the Alamo Bowl. It was like watching the 2004 Holiday Bowl – OSU’s running backs were running at will, mainly because Texas kept blizting.
So in the second half, OSU goes away from the run, the QB gets sacked TEN TIMES. Jesus, what is wrong with Pac-12 coaches????
December 30th, 2012 at 2:57 pm
Anyone with a Rivals account?
Sounds like something is happening on recruiting front.

#23 Eric, I thought the same thing as I watched the train wreck happening in 2nd half. WTF?
Riley is one of my favorite coaches but…
Not a great bowl season so far for the pac 12.

Andy Buh’s defense did a great job holding of Stanford. So jealous – can’t wait to watch Cal in person at the Rose Bowl!
