I stopped reading the chron a while ago. A friend sent me the link to an interview w Sonny D by crum – that, believe it or not, is actually worth reading.

Here it is:

Egu, expecting to play linebacker at Cal, had given his verbal commitment to Jeff Tedford in early November. After Tedford was fired, the 6-foot-3, 230-pound senior didn’t see himself fitting in the Bears’ system anymore.

“The new coaching staff informed me that they wanted me to play defensive end, which I was fine with,” Egu said. “But they were full at that position. They didn’t need me really. I thought, I’m not going to stay where I’m not really needed.”

If you read between the lines, CAL needed that scholarship for somebody else and backed off Egu.

His story sounds a bit contrived. If he really wants to play football, why choose an Ivy League? Seems like an odd choice.

Privatebschools have the rich kids whomattend so they can fund the smart poor kids who get in.

I know too in that latter group who got in to yale.

I’ve never understood how or why Yale is a good university. If you are as smart as a small child you will be accepted there. GW Bush graduated from there and he cannot even speak English. But, I suppose it is a very good place to mingle with the rich kids, get some good connections.
