Basketball: Bears climb to No. 42 in RealTimeRPI

Cal’s seven-game win streak has translated into a No. 42 spot in the latest computer rankings, according to RealTimeRPI.com.

The Bears were sitting at No. 46 headed into Saturday’s game against Colorado. Their 62-46 win dropped the Buffaloes six spots to No. 28.

Arizona remains the highest-rated Pac-12 team at No. 13, despite its loss Saturday at UCLA, which has moved up to No. 31.

Stanford, which plays Utah on Sunday, then visits Cal on Wednesday, is No. 71.

West Coast Conference runnerup Saint Mary’s is No. 38.

    RPI is a joke.

  • ConcordBear

Only thing that assures Bears anything is to keep on winning
Going to be good team we play Wed, they already beat us once.
    Pay back!

  • Juancho

May kline be amongst us as we embark on a new week.

It baffles me how Colorado’s RPI is so high. Their best wins are Oregon away (same as Cal), AZ at home (Cal did that on the road) and Baylor (a bubble team) on a neutral court. The difference between the two records is really more quality wins on Cal’s side (UCLA, Oregon a second time, etc.) but fewer bad losses on Colorado’s. I never knew this about the RPI, but bad losses will hurt you more than good wins will help you.

It also factors in the records of your opponents so that might be why CU is so high.

  • 1brsfan

I think we’re in the dreaded 8/9 game as of now with that win over CU. win two more games and we could slip into the 7 seed.

  • Rollonubears

Id rather be an 11 than a 7. If we beat the furd and make ini the pac12 title game, we’ll probably be a 5 seed, maybe 6. Even better if we get a little luck and win the regular season title. Lunardi and rpi can @&”$ it.

  • DaveintheHills

    please, anything but an 8/9

  • Sean

CBS Sports has us as a 9 seed. If we beat NC State, we get to play Gonzaga…

  • rollonubears

Only nice thing about 8/9, is that you’re the talk of the nation if you knock off #1. And it DOES happen. We could beat a top 4 team if we played like we did against UCLA, for a full game, if, and only if, that game was played in San Jose. The place would go nuts, and we’d also have a decent shot at the elite 8.

  • Eric

    I’d rather be a 12 seed than an 8 or 9 seed.

  • Juancho

Were a 8 seed. Thats klines number.

  • rollonubears

It would be funny if he took us to the rose bowl. We’d have to retire #8 with kline on it.

  • Juancho

    Brethren. I have a fever.

And more kline-acillin is the only medicine.
