Cal’s overtime loss to Utah in the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 tournament on Thursday night cost the Bears two seed slots, according to ESPN.com bracketologist Joe Lunardi. He has Cal at No. 11 in his latest bracket projection, as one of the last four teams to get a bye past the “First Four” games in Dayton, Ohio.
Lunardi says Cal will face No. 6 Virginia Commonwealth at Austin, Texas,
Saint Mary’s also is a No. 11 in the latest projections, and also one of the “Last four byes.”
Because both teams are done, they can only be impacted by the outcome of other teams.
But ESPN.com’s “Bubble Watch” said of Cal, “The positive news is there is still a gap between them and the bubble abyss, they’re done playing, and it would be a borderline miracle for them to be leapfrogged collectively in the next few days. So they’re still a lock in BW’s humble opinion.”
Here’s Lunardi’s full bracket projection.
