Basketball: Ducks top UCLA for Pac-12 title

Oregon got 20 points from Carlos Emory and 19 from Johnathan Loyd to beat top-seeded UCLA 78-69 for the Pac-12 tournament title on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Arsalan Kazemi added 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Ducks (26-8), who secure the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

UCLA (25-9) played without starting guard Jordan Adams, who suffered a season-ending broken foot in the semifinal win over Arizona. All five starters scored in double figures for the Bruins, led by Shabazz Muhammad and Larry Drew II, with 14 points apiece.

  • Uh Huh!

One has to wonder if the Ducks ultimately win the Aaron Gordon Sweepstakes as well, but they DO graduate off key big men, Kazemi, Emery, and Woods, not to mention wing Singlar. They will rebuild with 4 to-be sophomores: PG’s Artis, Loyd and SG Dotson, and 6’8″ Carter, and to-be senior center Austin. Is this exciting enough for Gordon? Or will he join the crowds of big men at Kentucky or Arizona.

  • Uh Huh!

Sorry, Loyd will be a senior.
