Incoming Cal freshman Missy Franklin won her fifth gold medal of the FINA World Championships on Saturday in Barcelona, Spain.
Franklin set a championship meet record in the 200-meter backstroke, clocking 2 minutes, 4.76 seconds. She touched the wall nearly 2 seconds ahead of the runnerup. Cal sophomore Elizabeth Pelton finished fifth.
Former Cal stars Nathan Adrian and Anthony Ervin were fourth and sixth, respectively in the men’s 50 free final, swimming 21.60 and 21.65.
Dana Vollmer, another former Cal swimmer, was eighth in the 50 butterfly at 26.46.
