Football: Coach says Keenan Allen has `a long way to go’ as rookie wideout with Chargers

It hasn’t been smooth sailing so far for ex-Cal star Keenan Allen, a rookie WR with the San Diego Chargers.

Chargers coach Mike McCoy recently told the team website Allen has “a long ways to go.”

“He’s got a lot to learn,” said McCoy. “He’s got a long ways to go and he’ll be the first one to tell you that.”
McCoy did praise Allen’s work ethic and says he’s “competing.”
There may be an opening for Allen after projecting starting wideout Danario Alexander tore his ACL in practice Tuesday.

He won’t start this year and will be a journeyman.

For some reason I’m really not all that interested in Keenan Allen. He represents a painful portion of Cal football history and I’d rather not be reminded of it.

My least favorite Cal star in my 25 years of watching Cal football. The Zach taint just won’t scrub off.

What does that say about the previous Cal staff? I think we can figure that out. And former Charger Wes Chandler was his coach last year! Just another Tedford blunder at the end.

Always thought Allen’s real talent was running after the catch, not running good routes or even catching the ball. The latter two talents are what counts most in the NFL.
