Former Cal star Tom Shields set his third American short-course meters record in a week, swimming the 100-meter butterfly in 49.01 seconds at a FINA World Cup meet in Berlin, Germany.

Shields, who won 11 NCAA titles during his Cal career, set the 200 fly record on Aug. 7 in the Netherlands, then broke it again on Saturday in Berlin with a time of 1:51.31.
