Basketball: Cobbs’ surgery goes well

Cal senior point guard Justin Cobbs underwent successful surgery to repair a broken foot he sustained in a San Francisco summer pro-am game nine days earlier, the school announced.

Cobbs had a screw inserted into his foot to stabilize a fracture in his fifth metatarsal bone.

His recovery timetable is six to eight weeks, according to Cal basketball coach Mike Montgomery. The Bears begin practice Sept. 27, but do not play their regular-season opener until Nov. 8 against Coppin State.

A second-team all-Pac-12 selection last season, Cobbs averaged 15.1 points and 4.8 assists. He is the league’s career active assist leader.

Bummer, but it appears JC will be back on his feet about 3-5 weeks before the season starts. Good luck with rehab, JC. Don’t be like my son, who was chomping at the bit and reinjured his broken leg, delaying recovery by another month. :)
