Freedom High running back Joe Mixon announced via Twitter on Wednesday that he is canceling his scheduled official visit to Texas A&M and taking an official visit to Cal for the Bears’ home game against No. 2 Ohio State.
“The Game I’ll be taking an Official is The Ohio St Game! September 14th #GoBears,” Mixon said on his Twitter account.
Mixon, a five-star recruit who holds more than 50 scholarship offers, announced earlier this month that Cal was among his list of top 10 schools.
Landing Mixon, listed by rivals.com as the top all-purpose running back in the country for the Class of 2014, would be a major coup for the Bears and coach Sonny Dykes, who has 10 players committed for next season. However, none of those players are five-star recruits.
Mixon also has visits scheduled to Florida (Sept. 21), Oklahoma (Oct. 21) and Wisconsin (Oct. 11).
Freedom’s first game this season is Aug. 30 at home against Amador Valley of Pleasanton.
