Cal may never throw the ball 64 times in a game again under Sonny Dykes/Tony Franklin, but they did against Northwestern because the running game was going nowhere.
Here’s a look at changes the Bears made to their record book on Saturday night:
– Jared Goff’s 445 passing yards ranks No. 2 all-time (1st among non-overtime games). And, BTW, 38th-best total in Pac-12 history — more than John Elway, Troy Aikman or Andrew Luck ever had in a game.
– Bryce Treggs’ 13 receptions (for 145 yards) tied for No. 3 all-time for single game, behind Geoff McArthur’s 16 (2003 Big Game) and Dameane Douglas’s 15 (1998 Oregon State).
– 99 offensive plays are the third most — the most in 23 years. Ranks behind only 102 vs. San Jose State in 1968 and 101 vs. SJSU in 1990.
– 64 pass attempts (63 by Goff and 1 by Vincenzo D’Amato) breaks school record of 60 against Maryland in 2008 and Oregon in 2011.
