Cal is expected to get an official campus visit next weekend from East Bay prep star Joe Mixon, one of the highest-rated prospects in the country.

But the Bears already have a verbal commitment from one of the nation’s most productive high school running backs.

Tre Watson of Corona-Centennial rushed for a school record 468 yards on 37 carries, scoring seven touchdowns, in a 69-55 win over Ventura-St. Bonaventure on Friday night.

“He was incredible,” coach Matt Logan told the Los Angeles Times, hardly overstating things.

In two games, Watson has rushed for 787 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Watson looks good, but the holes he ran through were huge, he really didn’t show many moves, he does not have sprinter speed, and did not run through many guys. I think knowing the level of competition he was facing would tell more about him, but I haven’t checked that out yet. Also, you would think he would get a lot of yards running 37 times (10 yards a carry, not overwhelming in high school, would still yield 370 yards). I think the jury is still out on him as to how good he looks in high school, but maybe I’m just a tough grader.
