Football: Is defense ready to show up?

By Jeff Faraudo

If Cal is going to reverse nearly 93 years of history against No. 4 Ohio State on Saturday, its defense will have to shoulder its share of the assignment.

The Bears’ defense has allowed more than 500 yards in each of its first two games and has been particularly susceptible to the big play. And that is exactly what the Buckeyes (2-0) and quarterback Braxton Miller can spring at any moment.

“You get out of your gap for a second, he takes off,” first-year Cal coach Sonny Dykes said of Miller, the preseason Heisman Trophy candidate, who has totaled nearly 5,500 yards passing and running in two-plus seasons.

Miller is identified as a game-time decision by OSU coach Urban Meyer after spraining a knee ligament a week ago. Dykes expects him to play, but said Ohio State will be a handful either way.

“It’s a very, very good offensive team, one of the best in the country,” he said.

Win or lose, just make be proud to be a Golden Bear. Please show up. Go toe to toe with those buckeyes and “tell the whole damn world this is Bear Territory!”

    I love you guys.

    Go Bears!

Like I said before the season started (Mc Clure repeated) no excuses from second , third string “IF” coaches are good! Question? Are they getting better each game? Offense no worries…defense the jury is still out…a little concerned about how long it took to make the required adjustments in Portland St. game….Northwestern game was winnable except for the two fluke interceptions…for years Boise St. was top ten in the nation by great coaching with two and three star athletes….Buh, this is your time to show us why Sonny chose you..go for it!!!!!! Go Bears!!!!!

Will our defensive tackles hold up? Last week was rough.

    Go Bears!

500 yards to an fcs team is so bad it’s funny. i mean, it sounds like a million yards. i really hope we can turn this around.

I bet Meyer is seriously wondering if he should play Miller. NU best you guys with its second string QB.

Daddy told me how years ago most of the PAC 8 teams would not play their stars against your pathetic team.

    It looks like déjà vu.
