Football: Cal biggest underdog since 1976

How significant is Cal’s 36-point underdog status vs. Oregon?

It’s the biggest involving the Bears since at least 1976, according to research done by my long-time pal Bud Withers of the Seattle Times. That’s 37 seasons ago.

He checked and couldn’t find the Bears as any bigger underdog than 32 points against Nebraska in 1999.

Do they cover?

Consider this: Cal has failed to cover the spread in its past nine games, according to OddsShark.com — the longest such streak in the country.

Win or Lose. I love my Golden Bears. Give Oregon hell!

    Go Bears!

I remember how pissed I was when Cal went into Eugene in 2009 and got hosed 35-3. At that time, I still thought Cal was a top-flight program. I have zero expectations for this one, so I am just going to enjoy the game if Cal can move the ball on offense.

Ironically, Cal’s hurry-up offense is going to allow Oregon to score more points than ever. I don’t see any way in hell the Bears cover this one, either. I’m looking for something like 66-21…..unless we have biblical rains.

@Steve- biblical rains and strong winds are in the forecast up here. 8-10″ in the coastal mountain range which means 2-3″ or more in the valley.

    Go Soggy Bears!

I don’t believe Cal covered that 32 against Nebraska.
