Football: Rodgers has surgery, expected to play

Junior Richard Rodgers, the Bears’ third-leading receiver with 33 catches, had surgery on his left thumb Tuesday, but is expected to be ready to play Saturday against USC.

Rodgers has been sidelined so far this week, but coach Sonny Dykes is confident he will be able to practice Thursday with a heavy wrap on his thumb.

Rodgers hurt his thumb last week against Arizona, but actually returned to the game after the injury, Dykes said.

Dykes said linebacker Khairi Fortt, nursing a biceps injury, is questionable to face USC. Fortt has not practiced this week.
