15:24 2nd H:Cal stretches lead to 51-32 after dunk by Solomon. Cobbs assisted on a fastbreak dunk by Wallace and converted a drive and free throw. Bears showing a little full-court pressure early in the half, something Monty’s teams haven’t often done. We’ll see where it leads.

HALFTIME: Cal leads 43-28 after Tyrone Wallace’s third 3-pointer of the half, just before the buzzer. Wallace, who shot 22.8 percent from the 3-point arc last season, is 3 for 5 tonight. 7:52 1st H: The freshmen arrive. Bird wows the crowd with a spectacular block . . . alas, a goaltend. Then he goes up to steal the ball from a Coppin St. player trying to put up a shot. Jordan Mathews came in and hit a 3-poiner, and has made 3 of 4 FTs since. An alley-oop pass from Bird to Richard Solomon on the fast break. Cal leads 25-15.
