Cal sophomore guard Tyrone Wallace was named Pac-12 Player of the Week after scoring a career-high 20 points in the Bears’ 83-64 season-opening win over Coppin State.

It’s Wallace’s first player of the week honor.

The Bakersfield native also contributed six rebounds, seven assists, two steals and a blocked shot, and made 3 of 6 attempts from 3-point range.

The Bears return to action Tuesday night against Denver, making its season debut. Tipoff is 8 p.m. at Haas Pavilion

Nice all-around effort for Mr. Wallace.

I vote that we convert this entire blog (football and basketball) over to 100% Cal basketball (women’s and men’s).

Anyone else care? Jeff, make it happen.

Wallace really got better as last year progressed. He can be a force.
