Basketball: Justin Cobbs fine to play Friday

Word through Cal athletics from coach Mike Montgomery is that point guard Justin Cobbs is fine and will play Friday night when the Bears (2-0) host Oakland U (0-2) of Michigan.

Cobbs took an awkward fall with about 8 1/2 minutes left in Tuesday’s game against Denver and limped off the court. He returned to the bench with ice wrapped around his left knee.

Montgomery said after the game that Cobbs was OK and it seems that remains the case.

I woulda been fine with Wallace/Singer sharing PG duties tonight, letting Cobbs rest the legs. I want Cobbs at absolutely full strength for Maui, where hopefully Cal makes a splash and gets some national respect. I’d love the rematch with cuse to take place and for Cal to get some revenge as they’ve beaten the Bears a couple times over the last few years.

    Go Bears!

    Bsb very true.

I wonder how many minutes he’ll get tonight.

I havent had this much fun watching the bball team since leon powe. Jabari being local provides that extra incentive for me.

I thought it was funny SI didn’t even have us in their tournament bracket for next year. What a great experience watching these guys in Maui would be. It’s like a hs gym over there.

How nice to have blog where no one is weeping over the football team!

BSB – agree with everything, I’d rather see Cobbs go short minutes this time out

Juancho – This is more fun to me. Sometimes the rest of the team would kind of stand around and watch Powe play. So far, this feels like a whole team being active. I’m sorry Haas has not been full. Even though these aren’t the toughest challenges, I wish more folks could see and enjoy the play.

Monty could be angling, Cobbs may sit. Not sure we need him out there, but maybe he’ll start and then only play 5 to 10 minutes per half.

Anyone catch UCI destroy UW? That 7’6″ (!) dude is pretty good for a frosh. Cal plays them in December.

Agree. Be shocked if cobbs plays more than 7/8 minutes. If he plays in 2nd half/more, we havent put away a team we should easilybeat. Good time to get Wallace, Kreklow and maybe even singer minutes at point.

Disc, surfed through it a few times. All I could think was we need 3rd big like him. Hope rooks gets some minutes tonight.

I thought SI had us unranked, but still one of 5 P12 teams in the tournament.

I loved seeing UCI beat UW. My brothers and I attended both Cal and UCI, so any time Zot can make waves it’s a good time, but especially against UDumb. The Huskies were short-staffed last night. Let’s hope the injury bug doesn’t hit Cal.
