Basketball: Mathews joins nice company

Cal’s Jordan Mathews put his name on an exclusive list Thursday night by scoring 32 points in the Bears’ 96-83 win at Oregon.

Mathews equaled the No. 4 scoring performance by a Pac-10/Pac-12 freshman in a conference road game, according to a list compiled by Arizona State sports information director Doug Tammaro.

Here’s the list:

37: O.J. Mayo, USC at Arizona State, March 1, 2008

34: Roberto Nelson, Oregon State at Arizona State, March 5, 2011

34: O.J. Mayo, USC at Cal, Jan. 3, 2008

32: Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Cal at Washington State, Jan. 25, 1996

32: Jahii Carson, Arizona State at Washington, Feb. 2, 2013

32: Jordan Mathews, Cal at Oregon, Jan. 9, 2014

Google – Eddie House from ASU.

Now what Pac 10 record does he hold and who did he achieve it against?

Very happy with a second road win to start conference play. Those are never easy to come by. Mathews was on fire. The story of the game was the energy of the starters to pull away under eight minutes playing with limited bench support.

Wow! Go Bears! Wonder what happens to the chemistry when bird and/or kreklow return. Hope they just add to this nice little run. This is our chance to make a statement and pull a few more solid recruits.

Happy for Jordan. Nice confidence builder after that terrible game at Stanford.

Rollun: I had the same thoughts. The team seems to be in good harmony right now. Singer is not ready yet, so he is the only one that should goes back to the bench. We will be alot deeper down the run.

Another VERY good win for Cal. Great coaching = team plays to its expected talent level and sometimes exceeds that. Mathews was unreal. Nailing shot after shot when Cal needed it.

Singler, Mathews both look good and these guys are backups. Bird and Kreklow are both still out, Cobbs running the point and Solomon is a beast inside.

This team is not better than AZ but could be better than every other team in the conference. If they play well – they can torch Ore. St.

    twitter: v moala(sp) to declare.

now this one I really don’t get.

is it because buh got demoted? sacks fired? wtf?

I wasn’t really counting on him for next year because of the injury bug.

we sure have a lot of nfl talent for one of the worst ranked D’s in the country.
