One-time Cal assistant coach Tosh Lupoi and Washington have been cleared by the NCAA after an investigation into allegations that Lupoi had paid for  a recruit’s tutoring.

Here are details, courtesy of the Seattle Times, including the letter sent by the NCAA to UW.

Hire him back. Sherm’s caseload of Social Welfare students has shrunk and he needs Lupoi to recruit a new batch of them otherwise known as football players.

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Where there’s A LOT of smoke, there’s a blaze. Let the loser go to the SEC.

Not much room in the kingdom for you, sir. Enjoy your time here.

Do we have an opening for a dl coach?

  • AztecDan

There are rumors flying he’s coming back to Cal. We’ll see, should be interesting. Sonny needs to do whatever it takes to get this program going. Tosh would pull some rabbits out of his hat recruiting-wise right NOW.
Maybe this is what Sonny was thinking when he said we’d have a top 3 class in the P12, lol.

  • AztecDan

    Sad little troll, er, person.

  • covinared

So long as he’s clear, I have no problem bringing him back. With so little job security in the profession, you can’t find fault in him taking a job at much higher pay. He probably would have been let go with Tedford anyway. With his buyout he should come cheap. He is one of us. A prodigal son.

  • AztecDan

Very evolved Covina … Kudos. I happen to agree with you.

With that, cue the poster who refers to Lupoi as a “POS”, lol.

Read more about it in the times today. Soundslike it could not be proven because the family refused to cooperate. Might be too risky to offer him back.

I would totally take him back. People were pissed that he left, myself included, but if anyone was in his shoes with the kind of money being offered, would they say no. I wouldn’t and I don’t think anyone else would in his financial bracket either. With regards to recruiting Cal did not pull in one recruit in the Bay Area top 25. Anyone think if we have Tosh we would still be in that position? I don’t think so. Plus keep this in mind, was it Tosh or the head coach who is setting the standards as far as high or low academics go? My money says it is the coach because he is the captain of the ship.

I would definitely take him back. He got us, temporarily into the top 10 or top 5 nationally in recruiting before he left and and some recruits cut out on us. Football is a semi-pro sport anyway, so we may as well try to compete at the highest level we can by hiring the best. Lupoi proved he was a class A (or A+) recruiter.

He really did nothing wrong while he was at Cal and trying to change Cal recruits to go to Washington is the type of thing that is done all of the time. I say welcome him back with open arms, give him a very good salary, and have him help fill the stadium to help bail Sandy out on Cal’s huge stadium financial obligation.

Good Riddance. He sold us out for 30 pieces of silver and got just what he deserved. Let him start his career over again. Good luck because he won’t have Jeff Tedford or Cal to give him a leg up this time around.
