Basketball: Can Solomon rediscover form?

To snap out of their recent slide — three double-digit losses in their past four games — the Bears need to improve their passing and tighten their defense, coach Mike Montgomery said.

They also need more Wednesday night against Utah from forward Richard Solomon, who has had a solid senior season . . . until the past two weeks.

Solomon averaged 11.8 points and 10.3 rebounds through the Bears’ first 25 games, but has produced just 5.5 points and 6.7 rebounds the past four games. He’s shooting 6 for 24 — just 25 percent — over that stretch.

“He’s putting pressure on himself and as a result he’s kind of reverting back to doing some of the things he did early on that weren’t very successful for him,” Montgomery said.

“For us to be successful, he’s got to be successful. He’s just got to relax and make plays.”

Last home stand for Solo. Maybe that will lead to inspired play. Cobbs will be ready to play!

The next 3 weeks for Richard Solomon are probably the most important weeks of his life. He could still emerge into a legit 1$t round NBA pick, or he could play himself right into the Israeli or Portuguese 2nd division or whatever…

If you think about it if he doesn’t help Cal get it done this week then next week won’t matter. We won’t win the P12 tourney and no one will be watching the NIT outside of Berkeley. Our tournament starts tonight. Win and move on or lose and go home.

Solo has his moments but he definitely is not a shooter (seems to be much too stiff on his shot), though his basic athletic skills make him an excellent rebounder and a decent shot blocker, and has zero chance of getting drafted in the 1st round or even close to it . But as a Cal fan, I hope he proves me wrong and, in effect, tells GoBears49 where to sh**e it.

Solomon’s a bonehead. This team only plays when they want to. They’re so disapointing.
