Football: Press luncheon quotes

Here is a samplaing of what was said at Tuesday’s weekly press luncheon:

On the weather playing a factor Saturday

Hopefully not much. That’s kind of what we talked about at the team meeting. It is going to be cold but you can’t let that affect you. Hopefully when we’re out there running around, it’s not going to be that big of a deal because they’re going to be ready. They’re going to bring everything they got.

Football: Tuesday night update

Obviously, it didn’t come as a big surprise that Jahvid Best is going to miss Saturday’s season-finale. As I reported Sunday, Best was not practicing and Jeff Tedford said they hadn’t even talked about a return. Surely, there will have to be some discussion about a possible return before it actually happens. Now, there is one chance left for that to happen — the bowl game.

Football: Big Game luncheon quotes

A sampling of what was said at yesterday’s Big Game luncheon:

On Stanford

They’re probably the hottest team in the country right now. They’re playing very physical, they believe in themselves, they execute at every level. It’s unbelievably impressive what they’ve done. They play so physical. Their offensive line is the best offensive line in the conference. We’re going to have a great week of preparation to be successful.

Football: Luncheon quick-hitters

I’ll have more later, but wanted to throw a couple of things out here real quick from today’s Big Game press luncheon:

–Jahvid Best definitely will miss the Big Game. Jeff Tedford said they still haven’t had a single conversation about when he might return. Tedford said there is “no way he’s ready to play in a game.”

–Tedford said the symptoms from Best’s concussion are gone. Now, it’s simply a matter of healing his back, which is still sore.

–Tedford said tight end Anthony Miller should return this week. Nose tackle Derrick Hill is “very close” to coming back.

–Tiger Woods is going to serve as an honorary captain for Stanford and be on the sidelines for the game.

Football: Luncheon quotes

A sampling of what was said at yesterday’s weekly media luncheon:

On playing his last home game

I’ve been trying not to think about it. I expect myself to get a little emotional about it. I’m trying to just focus on the game plan and get a win. It would be sweeter to get a win in my last game at Memorial Stadium.

Football: Tuesday night update

Not surprisngly, much of the discussion at today’s weekly press luncheon still focused on Jahvid Best. The latest is Best is still recovering at his parents home in Vallejo, and there doesn’t appear to be any imminent change in that situation. Jeff Tedford said Best will wait until he’s completely feeling better before he even entertains the notion of returning to classes, let alone football. Tedford has been communicating with Best via text messages and Best told him this morning that he’s feeling a little better, but still has a stiff back and a minor headache. It sounds like the back is the thing that is bothering him the most, not surprising when you think about the way he landed.
