Monk’s Kettle, the new Belgian-style pub at 3141 16th St. in the Mission in San Francisco has got a new beer list that blew me away. The new list, which is an addition to a good stock of Belgian and American craft beer, offers a dozen medal winners from the recent World Beer Cup in San Diego.
The World Beer Cup is the international version of the Great American Beer Festival, held each October in Denver. It’s sponsored by the Brewers Association, the Boulder, Colorado-based craft beer trade group. Like the GABF, winners are chosen in blind tasting by professionally qualified judges. Gold is first, silver, second, bronze, third.
Here’s the Monk’s Kettle list:
Stone Pale Ale, bronze medal
Marin Brewing Starbrew (wheat wine), bronze
Midas Touch, Dogfish Head, bronze
Schneider Aventinus (Germany), bronze
Meantime Coffee Porter, (England), silver
La Fin Du Monde (Unibroue, Canada), gold
Westmalle Tripel (Belgium), bronze
Gueze Boon (Belgium), gold
Drie Fonteinen Oude Gueze, (Belgium)
Salvation, Russian River, gold
Temptation, Russian River, silver
Malheur Brut Reserve, (Belgium) silver.

That’s a mighty fine list. Please have at least one of each for me!

I’ve sampled most of them over the last couple of years. One I haven’t is Meantime Coffee Porter. That brewery, which is on the Greenwich 0 meridian, always gets good marks. Gonna try it soon.
