What are you drinking on the Fourth of July? For me, it’s Speedway Stout, a beer best-drunk slowly…

The Aleuminati, a Facebook-like Web site for people into beer has an interesting thread going: What beer are you going to drink today to celebrate the 4th of July.
Personally, I’m going to go against the flow and crack a bottle of Speedway Stout from Alesmith in San Diego, brought to me by a friend and regular poster here, Michael Condie. It’s 12 percent, so I’m going to drink it real slow…Here’s what Alesmith says about the beer.
Speedway Stout
A HUGE Imperial Stout that weighs in at an impressive 12% ABV! As if that’s not enough, we added pounds of coffee for a little extra kick. Our special-edition Brewer’s Reserve Speedway Stout, which is aged in Bourbon barrels, has been rated the #1 BEST BEER IN THE WORLD at ratebeer.com. It was also featured on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” in a segment on the best dark beers in America.
Is it the best beer in the world? I dunno. Have to think about that one. Have a happy holiday!

Just poured an Alesmith IPA (one of San Diego’s many fine hoppy products, obtained locally at K&L) into a cold pint glass. Thick milkshake head rising an inch above the rim without dripping over. 7.25%, so I can easily tend the entire 22 oz. over an hour or so. Later I’ll likely have to crack a Moylan’s double IPA or a Hopsickle.

San Diego’s many fine products is truth. I think San Diego county is stealing or at least sharing the thunder from the north. Green Flash, Ale Smith, Stone, Ballast Point, Port and Lost Abbey and the Pizza Ports…long list. Gets better and better., Ahh so much beer, so little time.
I tried the Stone 12th as promised. Gonna do a post on what I discovered in a minute.

Methinks I’ll have to apend this to tomorrow’s Session roundup…

San Diego is indeed an amazing place for beer. Makes you wonder why Los Angeles is such a black hole for beer.

Had some Kona Longboard Lager with the July 4th bbq.

That’s a beer made for the heat, have you ever tried Maui Brewing’s beer?

Maui’s Coconut Porter treated me well on my camping trip. Now, where did I hear about that beer….
