Thursday, July 10th, 2008 at 2:24 pm in Barrel-Aged Beer, Craft Beer, General.

Flash news… Ed Ledger at Ledger’s Liquors, 1399 University Ave. has just received a stock of Russian River’s Pliny the Elder as well as Blind Pig IPA and the new barrel-aged Redemption in bottles.

It’s here right now. Ed says Pliny and Blind Pig are $3.99 each – 500 ml bottles. Redemption is $7.99.
See you there. This is history.

  2. William Brand Says:

Me too Mike. I’ve got to finish one stoyr and I;m gone.

  3. Dave Says:

Does anyone know if these beers will be available in the south bay (San Jose area)?

  4. Chipper Dave Says:

Good news! I hope this means they will begin shipping to Colorado soon. Can’t wait to get my hands on them here.

  5. William Brand Says:

Don’t know about Colorado, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Pliny reached the Denver area.

  6. William Brand Says:

I’ll check about distribution. Trouble with the South Bay as you no doubt know is that it’s truly a beer desert, with few bright spots.

  7. mike Says:

fantastic! as good in bottles as on tap (both blind pig & pliny).

it was really amusing to be drinking a bottle of pliny that was bottled the same day! the label did say to drink it fresh, but that was a whole new experience…

    thanks again for the tip.

I’m jealous. I had to work on deadline last night until 10 p.m. in Oakland, so my wife picked up a few bottles for me. But by the time she got home (She works late) it was after midnight and I was asleep. I start work at 7 a.m. So those bottles are sitting there on my kitchen table, staring at me. Damn.

    Breakfast of champions.

  10. William Brand Says:

    Don’t I wish.

    South Bay == Beer Desert

Yeah, I wish it wasn’t so!
The funny thing is, 20 years ago, it was
the Tied House and the Gordon Biersh in Palo Alto
that got me interested in good beer.

I still like going to Gordon Biersh at times when I
feel like a good basic German beer …

I wish tho that we had breweries down here
    doing more interesting stuff tho.

  12. dude Says:

Heh. I work a mile from there. Just got back with 2.

  13. Jon Says:

Alright! Still in stock on Friday…going down there after work.
Well Bill I guess Russian River beat Ed’s ETA of August.
    Works for me!

  14. William Brand Says:

Works for me too. Pliny at home tonight!

Got this post from Mike, friend:

Finally made it over to Ledger’s (during my lunch break today). The Phily is flying off the shelves. About six people (demographics: all white males 25-50 years old if anyone is counting) were at the store shopping while I was there. All six bought at least one bottle of Pliny. I think most grabbed a Blind Pig too. One guy bought a case of Pliny. Tim and I really want to sample some DIPA’s side-by-side. I hope you are available July 20 pm.

  16. Knudsen Says:

City Beer is stocking both! I was in there when they came in! Great timing.

  17. Mario (Brewed For Thought) Says:

Ironically, I haven’t seen this anywhere around here (Santa Rosa). I guess we have the brewery here so there’s no need for bottles. I would like to take a couple to the beach this weekend though.

  18. Dave Says:

I just purchased a few at MoreBeer in Concord today. The bottles I have say they were bottled yesterday. MoreBeer just got them in and they’ve already sold over two cases!

  19. William Brand Says:

About the availability of Pliny in Santa Rosa. I understand they’re selling at the brewpub, Mario. Selling the bottled version.

  20. William Brand Says:

About the South Bay=Beer Desert. I wish it werent either, John, A distributor down there says the problem is that real estate is very expensive, so leases are costly, which means high overhead. That stops a lot of prospective pub owners.

I think the major problem is that the South Bay is very spread out, just like Los Angeles. You’d have to have a lot of cash to start, then be smart enough to publicize what you;re selling to homebrew clubs, in beer periodicals, and blogs, then have enough cash to hang on while word-of-mouth spreads the word. Also, the place wold have to be damn good with staffers who understood beer.

  21. Tim Clifford Says:

Went to Ledger’s today around noon–two bottles of Pliny left.

You mention in the original post that the newest batch of Redemption is barrel-aged. Is that true? If so, I’m kicking myself for not picking up a bottle of that, too. Great beer anyway, but on wood might be very interesting.

  22. mike black Says:

I wish I could buy some at my liquor store across the street here in Venice Beach.

  23. William Brand Says:

It nay not make it to your liquor store Mike, but Pliny’s definitely headed south. i don’t track good beer stores in Southern California, but I;d check with the best stores you know and see what they say. You know, you do have some dynamite double ipas down there. One of my faves is Green Flash West Coast IPA and Green Flash Tripel.
