Does drinking beer mean an eventual beer belly and for guys, a grey beard?

Happy, fat beer drinkerBill — Here’s a quetion: Why do all beer guys look the same (you excepted!). They have grey beers, are sort of tan and of course, have the belly? — Kari

Wow, what a great question Kari. It’s like the big, white elephant in the living room. We don’t talk about. Believe me, that’s a stereotype. You go into a room of beer drinkers and fixate on the big, er-hefty guy in the crowd. In truth, go to any beer festival or a good pub and you’ll find the average age is around 25 - 35 and most eveybody’s fairly slim. The trick in drinking beer is quality, not quantity. The other important thing is to work out. Get excercise.

Check out the Trappist in Oakland or EJ Phair’s in Concord, for example. Most of us keep our weight under control.

Of course, some of us are just large. It’s genetic. And some large people drink beer. But it’s genetics and heredity and background and habits, not the beer.

By the way, the illustration above is called “The Happy Beer Drinker.:” It sells for $15.99 and you can find it here.
