Great American Beer Fest: It’s big, real big…

Since its humble beginning in a hotel meeting room in Boulder, CO, the festival its founders euphemistically dubbed the Great American Beer Festival has evolved into something much larger than they ever dreamed.

This three day brew-ganza that begins this evening in the cavernous Colorado Convention Center in downtown Denver isn’t just big: It’s truly gargantuan.
Consider: More than 1,600 beers on tap from 320 brewers: wild fruit beers, painstaking imitations of the best European lagers, killer stouts, over –the-top hoppy beers from our own corner of the world in Northern California _ all competing for gold, silver or bronze medals in over 60 style categories.

Yes, even the folks from Bud will be here _ Budweiser as in St. Louis, USA, not the champion Budweiser from the Czech Republic.

… Great expectations: Iron Springs Pub & Brewery _ the Bay Area’s newest brewpub expects to be open for business this weekend, Oct. 2. Mike Altman , who owns Iron Springs with his wife, Ann, is a prize-winning brewer from Boulder, CO. The address is: 765-A Center Blvd. in Fairfax. … Calendar: There’s a large, pre-Halloween, beer event with live music from local bands ,plus DJs, coming to the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View on Saturday, Oct. 16, noon – 5 .m.produced by Bill Graham Presents and Night That Never Ends Production: 70 beers from more than a dozen brewers, including Lagunitas, Firestone-Walker and Mendocino.
