OK. The net has changed everything. I know. But, when I get email from readers telling me they found out on a website about a big-deal beer festival at Drake’s Brewing in San Leandro next weekend, I realize I’ve got to put things in this blog a lot faster.
I got a note from Drake’s a couple of days ago and I was holding onto it until my column next Wednesday in the Oakland Tribune and other papers.
Can’t do that anymore. Gotta get the noos-er news out fast.Sooo…
First, the facts. It’s true. There’s a great beer lineup. According to Drake’s vice president Pete Rogers, Drake’s is holding its first annual Beer Festival and Washoes Tournament next Saturday, July 8, 2006 from noon until 6 p.m. at the brewery,1933 Davis Street, Suite 177 in San Leandro. This place is hard to find. Check out the map here.
The fest’s a benefit for the teachers of Jefferson Elementary School in San Leandro. Hopes are to raise $16,000. Drake’s promises to match every dollar contributed.
Tickets are $35, which are tax deductible, and include a sample glass, t-shirt, and beer. There will be raffle prizes and prizes for the Washoes Tournament.
Breweries besides Drake’s include, Marin Brewing, Larkspur; Bison, Berkeley; Magnolia Brewery, San Francisco; 21st Amendment Brewery, San Francisco; Triple Rock, Berkeley; Iron Springs Brewery, Fairfax; Russian River, Santa Rosa; Bear Republic, Healdsburg; Thirsty Bear, San Francisco; Rubicon Brewing, Sacramento Brewing, Sacramento; EJ Phair, Concord; Eldos Brewery, San Francisco, Sudwerk Brewery, Davis, and Seabright, Santa Cruz.
The best lineup in the East Bay in many a year. Tax-deductible donations can be sent in care of Pete Rogers, Drakes Brewing Company/Rogers Family Company, 1933 Davis Street, Suite 308, San Leandro, CA 94577. Receipts for donations will be sent to donors by mail. Or pay at the door.
Washoes, by the way, is game of washer tossing, modeled after horse shoes. Here’s a link.
Personally, this is one not to miss. See ‘ya there.
