Sad news, hopefully not completely bad. Jay Brooks in his blog Brookston Beer Bulletin said he heard Coast Range Brewing in Gilroy has closed. He could be correct.
Apparently, it may not be quite true. According to their former marketing manager, Jeff Moses, who left in September the brewery’s in Chapter 11 reorganization. Chapter 11 is the part of the federal bankruptcy code that holds creditors in abeyance while the company reorganizes.
Jeff says they’re trying to sell the brewery and that they’ve not brewed any beer in several months. One of their last brews must have been Jeff’s private label Boxer, a medium body lager. He had plans for more, guess that’s on hold.
I’ve tried to reach their longtime and most excellent brewer Peter Licht. His cel phone’s disconnected; sent him an e-mail. We’ll see.
If they’re not brewing, looking for a buyer and in Chapter 11 and Jeff has left and Peter’s cel phone’s gone. Looks bad, doesn’t it.
I’ve always been a fan; their new Farmhouse Range – new two years ago – had some excellent beers, including a wondeful barrel-aged porter. It’s strong and still around in stores. If you can find it, grab it.
