Fabulous post today from Don Russell who writes the Joe Sixpack column in the Philadelphia Daily News and the Beer Radar Blog. Fab, that is, if you’re a Democrat. I can’t/won’t print the entirity, butt if you don’t like the present occupant of the White House, I suggest you follow the link and read the rest… Hint: The dork gives toasts with water.

Hillary drinking whiskey, Barack drinking beer in Pennsylvania.

If you want to win votes in Pennsylvania, you better show us you can drink. This month I’ve marveled while watching Barack Obama sip Yuengling and Hillary Clinton polishing off a whisky.

Marveled? Well, yeah, after 8 years… Read more…Beer Radar…

Don posted this shot of Hillary tossing off a whiskey and Barack drinking a made in Pennsylvania Yuengling Porter. I scrounged around and found Hilarry hoisting a pint.

Here’s what the Associated Press said about it…
Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) toasted Hammond, Ind., Mayor Tom McDermott, left, during a stop at Bronko’s restaurant in Crown Point, Ind., April 12, 2008. Ed and Patty Hall are seated at right. (Associated Press)

Of course Obama thinks Yuengling is of them ‘designer beers’, but if you are picking an candidate on this criteria your priorities are out of order. 😉

  • William Brand

Hmmm. Well, I actually like Yuengling Porter and it shows me that Barack is smart enough — or has an aide smart enough — to pick an historic Pennsylvania beer, instead of say, Rolling Rock, which is now owned by Anheuser-Busch, which closed the Rolling Rock, PA plant in Latrobe, PA. and moved production of to Newark, NJ.

I understand that Hillary also had a pint of Yuengling and chased it with a striaght whiskey. Have to love a woman who drinks her whisky neat. wb

  • William Brand

And, by the way, Yuenglng’s certainly no designer beer. It’s been around sinc 1829. It was the blue collar drink of choice in Pennsylvania for over a century.

I was just quoting Obama’s words William and if you take it as anything more than a play for the cameras by a politicians than you are overestimating them. I’d rather they make sensible policies, then hear about their drinking habits, much like the blow up by an ABC news guy about Obama’s smoking is none of my business and I really don’t care.

But then 6 years working in DC and on the Hill does remove some awe out of the window dressing games politicians play.

  • Geistbear

as for your point #3 that was the point of the link I left in said regards. It’s fine that politicians play these games, I just hope people are smart enough to recognize them for what they are…

  • William Brand

Oh Yeah, Of corse, you’re fith and I totally agree with you. This is just window dressing. But at least they don’t toast with ice water. I just posted it because it was fun and it involved beer. By the way, if you worked on the hill, do you know about the Congressional Craft Beer Caucus?

  • William Brand

There are 35 members. It’s actually called the Small Brewers Caucus. Here’s a link, but the site hasn’t been updated for a while…

Hillary and folks hoisting a pint is fine, but who’s drinking milk, front left?

  • julie@goodbrewer

Not that I’m a fan of dork-boy, and am loath to say anything in his defense, but don’t forget that he’s a recovering alcoholic. Because dork-boy couldn’t just enjoy a proper pint like the rest of us, he doesn’t get to enjoy any at all!
