Wunder Brewing in San Francisco is closed, hopefully temporarily

Some bad news, I’m afraid…one of our readers/posters sent this notice from SF Eater about Wunder Brewing, 1326 9th Ave. in San Francisco, which just opened last fall.
The doors are closed….
“Inner Sunset: Until we hear any further news, we’re going to go ahead
and declare Wunder Brewing Company dead in the water. Since taking
over the Eldo’s Brewery operation in the fall, Wunder has been forced
to keep often-sporadic hours (so much so that it had to leave special
signs indicating that it would, in fact, be open on St. Patrick’s
Day), and now the microbrewery has been closed for at least a week.
We’ve heard rumblings before of a tough lease for that prime
Ninth/Irving space, so only time will tell if the shuttering is
temporary or permanent, though a nervous note on the website says that
it will return “hopefully later in June!” More ominous news: the phone
is disconnected, which never a good sign, especially for a reputed
“remodel.” Stay tuned …”
I checked the Wunder Website and saw the note. And yes, the phone is disconnected and the founder-brewer John Wonder isn’t answering his home phone either. This is a total bummer. Here’s a local guy, grew up in the neighborhood; he an experienced brewer and wanted to do a brewpub on his own turf.
He said a couple of months ago that he had a difficult time getting the liquor license transferred from Eldo. Let’s hope this is indeed temporary and if he reopens, let’s all show up and celebrate.

I’m sorry to report, it’s looking like, “She’s dead, Jim.”
There are now several orange SFPUC, “disconnection notice for non-payment,” taped to the front door.

Oh my. That;s bad news. The beer was excellent. I keep coming back to the fact that four brewpubs have failed in that site.

They still owe their best wait staff money and karma will catch up with them if they don’t make that right.

Is this company still in business if so would they be interested in a 1907 lady in red dress next to red roses picture put on a grape crate top. It is in excellent condition.

Nope, they’re gone for good. Social Kitchen & Brewery is now in the location they once briefly occupied.

We are breathing life again, this time in Modesto. Wunder Beer is available under new mangement and ownership. We brew at the old St. Stan’s in Modesto and carry both lines. Wunder Beer is actually available at Infineon Raceway.
